![]() Facebook tracks users' interests and now sells advertising to major businesses. Foursquare began as a check-in app for diners and later sold data to restaurants. That data is huge for the anglers looking for the biggest catches, and for the company itself. So far, the app has logged 350,000 catches. Runners can track their routes, golfers can analyze their swings, but before FishBrain came along, there was no equivalent for anglers," Attby said in a statement. “Fishing is a hugely popular sport in countries all over the world, but one that has remained largely out of step with technological developments that currently benefit so many other sports. The network's algorithm, powered by user-submitted data and public weather information such as water temperature and wind speed, also tries to forecast when and where species could appear. Like the way Google's Waze provides real-time traffic data for vehicles, FishBrain provides a map of what fish are popular in the area at that time. Users can submit their own catches with species, weight and location along with their equipment. So what can you do on FishBrain? First and foremost, connect and compete with other sports fishing enthusiasts worldwide through an online leaderboard based on size of catches. Sure, Facebook may have 1.44 billion members and Twitter over 300 million, but for a niche network focused on sports fishing, the milestone is pretty impressive. FishBrain has reached 1 million users, CEO Johan Attby announced Thursday at the Symposium Stockholm. social network? Fishing enthusiasts worldwide have hooked onto a mobile app called FishBrain that lets them create online profiles to track and share information on catches and even compete in a leaderboard. You'll also probably be the only one using that bait in that water source, so have fun with that.FishBrain, the "world's largest community-based fishing app," reached 1 million users on June 10, 2015, after launching in March 2013. Everything with gills will want to eat it, and it's not an intimidating presentation to highly pressured fish. Go out with a small 1/32oz jig head and a 2 inch soft plastic swim bait and bring a small unweighted bobber if your serious about catching fish from shore. Big box stores like Dicks, Walmart and Bass Pro push these huge "pro" lures that will actually catch nice fish in the right scenario (usually on a boat in a remote area that doesn't see a lot of pressure, thanks to major league bass fishing for that marketing fopah), but are not appropriate for the shore use that a majority of fisherman experience. Focus less on the area you are fishing and more on what you are fishing with (fish are wicked unpredictable, they are always where you would least expect). Big baits (over 1/8 oz), big line (over 8lb mono) and big rods (over medium light power) will land you a skunk in most pressured fishing areas from shore. A good way to assure you'll always catch fish is to downsize your gear big time. Figure out what works, that's a big part of fishing, it's a puzzle and the pieces change multiple times a day as the day progresses. ![]() Word of advice, don't listen to the gear recommendations on FishBrain, most people don't know what the hell they are doing. Once I figured out the gear it really came to fruition. It was very useful, albeit I sucked and was fishing the wrong baits/line/gear etc. I started my fishing hobby a few years ago using fishbrain to find spots that actually had fish in it. ![]()
